[edit] Impact and Maturity Levels

We estimate the Impact Level at 3, as this will redefine information, technology and assurance. There are now tens of millions of users of virtual spaces, using virtual identities in massive multi-player games online and in environments such as Second Life, There, Active Worlds and Red Light Center. Surgeons are now implanting MEMs and semi-biological devices to improve human functionality, or repair chronic conditions such as macular degeneration. Scientists are now helping those without the ability to move their limbs to perform limited actions by linking up electrical activity in the brain to prosthetic devices. Co-operative and collaborative software creates an artificial 'mind' (This wiki is an example, although very, very primitive). How is identity defined in a virtual world? We do not want to descend into breathless hyperbole, especially as the Maturity Level is 1. But the next decade will be dramatic in terms of the evolution of these subsectors.

Personal tools

Blindside wiki is the place to collect issues and opinions on future technologies that may have implications for information assurance. Opinions are fine, but need to be clearly shown as such, and referenced to the person or people who holds those views.
